1986

The extremely talented and always entertaining Chi Chi Rodriguez endured a rain shortened event to win the 1986 Senior TPC at Canterbury Golf Club. The 54-hole event marks the only time in Canterbury's illustrious history of major championships that weather shortened the event.

Rodriguez played magnificent over the 3 rounds posting scores of 69-67-70 for a 10-under par total of 206. Enough to be two shots clear of the field. Australian Bruce Crampton finished 2nd. The soft conditions during the week produced low scores and Chi Chi's hot putter vaulted him to the top of the leaderboard for his first of his 22 Champions Tour victories. And as is always the case with Chi Chi, his signature "toreador dance" delighted the crowds at Canterbury all weekend long. During the tournament Canterbury played to a par of 72 and Rodriguez took home the winners share check of $45,000.
